Watching The Sopranos. Meadow, Adriana, Carmela, etc., all are - TopicsExpress

Watching The Sopranos. Meadow, Adriana, Carmela, etc., all are the beneficiaries of the death and destruction that disproportionately places privilege at their feet. We want to judge them for being vaguely aware of the real source of this privilege, the active suffering of others at the hands of Tony and his crew; but the Sopranos could be considered a sort of metaphor for the American government, and its citizens could be considered the same sort of passive, willfully ignorant beneficiaries. When we judge the family members for their part in the callous inequity institutionalized by their patriarchs, are we unwittingly judging ourselves for the same part in our American society?
