Watching a Woody Allen documentary really made it clear what I dont like about his artistic work. It was clear even when he was a comedian. Whereas Monty Python took on radical subjects and attacked authority figures Woody Allen was more the Dirch Passer (Danish comedian) type of comedian who was not educated, intellectual or radical and dealing with pretty mundane subjects and this lack of radicalism and love of the trivial and mundane carried over into his movies. However, I must say his verbal skills are very good which is what interests me about him. He also plays the clarinet, by the way. Very multi-talented person.
