Watching a tv program about the South, Im inspired to reread one - TopicsExpress

Watching a tv program about the South, Im inspired to reread one of my favorite books: The Dollmaker, by Harriet Arnow. At one time it was considered a classic of socialist literature, but the author was simply being realistic about conditions during wartime for poor people. Warning: It was a well-received (by everyone besides me!) movie in the 80s, but if you decide to read this book, tell me if Jane Fonda is the actress you would have chosen to play Gertie Nevels. Harriet Arnow is a great, overlooked American writer. End of todays lesson.
