Watching footage of John Milius struggling with aphasia after a stroke is just wrenching when youve actually met the guy. 20 years ago, Lorenzo at Warner Bros. sometimes had an informal film showing and shoot-the-breeze club with him, where some of us younger execs were invited to come along, and it was a master class in the pure enjoyment of storytelling and uncensored ebullience. I was lucky enough to sit at the knee once or twice of the guy who wrote the USS Indianapolis speech in Jaws, for goodness sake. Hes one of the people who made me want to write, and keep writing. Get better soon.
