Watching our strong young beautiful girls yesterday on and off the stage made me so proud to my very centre. Kapa haka is a great vehicle for health promotion, and human growth. You learn about discipline, self-esteem, boundaries, work-ethic, emotional maturity, whakapapa and relationships in times of stress. My hope is that young Māori women learn to listen to themselves and their intuition, and back themselves more - that when they do so, they are powerful beyond measure. My hope is also that young Māori Men are taught that this power is something to celebrate and nuture, not to try and control. Let what we see on stage, translate into our lives....cause boy, our people are in good hands if that happens. And if you are a Māori male over 45 years old - please go and get a heart check.
