Watching the coverage of the start of WWI, I am very uneasy. - TopicsExpress

Watching the coverage of the start of WWI, I am very uneasy. Words are easy when we talk of sacrifices and heroes, even the news of over 800,000 British dead roles off of the tongue quite easily. We hear of the need to remember the dead as if that memory will somehow achieve something good, but it doesnt. We even hear the word freedom being bandied about by the likes of Prince William. What freedom did they win for us? The freedom for other members of his family to wear pretty outfits possibly? That war was not about freedom, as far as the British were concerned, it was about the British Empire. To ensure that the sun never settled on that Empire. To whos benefit was the Empire ensured, not for those poor sods who were fighting to survive amongst the rats, lice, mud, gas and bullets. For the Rothschilds and others it was very profitable, just as was WWII and every war to date. I have just watched our Prime Minister, David Cameron say to the camera that the decision to go to war, is the most difficult decision any Premier has to make. But then he spoiled it by saying how he has battled to keep us out of wars such as Libya and Syria! I had to pinch myself to assure that I really was not dreaming as images of the Ukraine flash across my mind and listen to the eagerness for war vomiting forth from that void of a mouth. As the heart rending and piousity of many who will bow their heads for the requisite 2 minutes, straighten their veterans beret, march to the pub and swap glorious tales of excitement of battles and wars fought and enjoyed since that date. The sacrifice of a generation, rememberd by the next generation of fighters and warriors the TV presenter has just said as he winds up the program. Doesnt sound very hopeful for world peace does it? Well, we have at least a month of this sickening blood lust celebration before we have peace until November rememberance rises above the horizon, followed by the period of Love and Peace at Christmas, when we are all encouraged to love one another, before we start killing again. Am I an old cynic or am I a realist? I suspect a bit of both. Either way it is interesting to note that as soon as the coverage of World War One was over, we went straight into the slaughter taking place in Gaza. Is Syria and the Ukraine all peace and flowers now, or are we just bored with those wars?
