Watching this, its interesting to see how little has changed in the world since John Lennon was alive. We sit back in our isolated cubicles and cars, our lone capsules and self-induced bubbles of temporary pleasures, passively allowing our governments and corporations to inflict war, violence and injustice upon millions of innocent people. And what makes it worse, is that they do it in our names, with our money and power, that we choose to give to them. Looking at John Lennon, and hearing his clarity, I stop to wonder whether anyone still cares anymore? Have we all become so separated that we have become entirely numb to a world full of suffering, war, inequality, oppression, whether we secretly still know that underneath it all, that we ourselves have the power to change it, to choose peace over profit, righteousness over our own comfort. Do we simply pretend to be ignorant, or is it that we feel powerless? Or is that we lack the conviction to be enlightened to the realities of the world, all in the interests of protecting our own wealth, comfort and immediate pleasures . We do have the power to change the world. We just choose not to. As Mr Lennon rightly puts it the future is in our minds. We are able to imagine a better world, but can we create it? I wonder especially in the next few years, as droughts, religious (lunantic) wars and a looming energy crisis continue to threaten us as a species, will we become more selfish, or are we finally at the point where we become intelligent enough to realize what we have (eden), what we want (peace), and what we need to do to preserve it.
