Water Meter Update: 118,000,000 gallons of water is used but not paid for by the users. Instead we all have to pay for it--the MWRA which runs Quabbin (where we get our water) bills for all of it and our rates go up to pay the bill. Is that fair? Plus we can go to monthly bills so you can budget instead of getting hit with three months at a time. Wireless system allows meter readers to be reassigned (we are down to 1 for water anyway). Chicopee needs to modernize and the gained revenue of $1.2 annually will offset the cost of the loan (about $500,000 per year). Everybody pays their fair share, no one pays more than they use and we can keep water rates down. Change may be hard but it is the smart thing to do.
