Water charges were introduced in Ireland last year as yet another austerity measure put in place after the collapse of the banking system and the crippling loans the nation took from the FSF and the IMF. The people are being made to foot the bill for these loans, while the corporate cronyism that necessitated them continues in the form of a new double-tax on the element most essential to life. For a reference here in the US we need look no further than Detroit. This poem cuts through the divisive nonsense convincing people that the very real struggle for universal social justice is an issue specific to any one milieu. Globalized greed in the 21st century will not discriminate based on race, gender, religious beliefs or occupation. The truth is that were all in it together, and by obsessing over our differences we play right into the hands of those who know were easier to control when divided.
