Water, drainage top voters agenda CUTTACK: Drinking water and proper drainage system top the list of demands of residents of wards 44 and 45 of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC). Poor drainage system is plaguing the wards for years. Every time during elections, candidates promise to resolve both the problems but they renege on it once the polls get over. Ward 44 and 45 include important areas like Khannagar, some portions of Badambadi, Arunodaya Nagar and government bus stand. Population of both the wards is about 20,000. The residents of the ward are educated and politically conscious as Judicial Colony, high court quarters and LIC Colony are located here. During elections, candidates promise they will construct culverts, repair drains to rectify the poor drainage system of the area. But after elections, they happily forget their promises. I dont want to waste my precious vote on these liars this time, said B N Balabantray, a resident of Khannagar. During rains, the entire area turns into a hell and you cannot even imagine entering into it. Erratic drinking water supply has added to our woes, said Sudhakar Das, a retired government official, residing in LIC Colony. The residents have also demanded repair and renovation of the government bus stand. The government bus terminus is one of the busiest and biggest in the state but adequate measures have not been taken for its maintenance, , said Ramakant Padhiari, who resides near.
