Water has been released from the Menindee Lakes System, the Murray - TopicsExpress

Water has been released from the Menindee Lakes System, the Murray Mouth is still silted over and the Darling River has been left almost dead and dry but the tide is turning in our favour. Finally we have Politicians both State and Federal listening to our concerns as a community re our water supply. Admin has had meetings with Kevin Humphries and John Williams last night (19/01/15), which was a very open and productive meeting, with discussions centering around Bore Water and alternatives to an emergency water supply, with all of our ideas and submissions now being fully investigated for short term and long term water supply for Broken Hill and Menindee. Discussion on establishing a Receational/Social Hub within the MLS, which will add to the Social, Recreational, Economical and Environmental aspects of the MLS and Darling River. More discussion will take place at the next CCC meeting on Feb 5th. Today both Mark Hutton and myself attended a meeting, in company of Federal Environment Minister, Greg Hunt, Federal Parliamentary Secretary to the Environment, Bob Baldwin, Federal Health Minister Susan Ley, NSW Water Minister Kevin Humphries, State Member for Murray-Darling John Williams, Mayor Wincen Cuy, community reps of the CCC and other Federal and State Government Officials. We were given the opportunity to put our case forward and I can assure you myself and Mark didnt waste the opportunity. Mark presented Greg Hunt with our current submission that was put to the first CCC Meeting and was in turn handed over to Bob Baldwin. I am pleased to say that our group is the only group that has made a submission to the CCC and has offered alternative solutions. It was acknowledged that mistakes had been made with the management of the Lakes (by Kevin Humphries) and Greg Hunt was interested in moving forward and finding solutions to our water supply problem. He gave his personal guarantee, that he would not let Broken Hill run out of water. Members we are in the box seat to get a better deal for Broken Hill re our water supply and better management of the Menindee Lakes and Darling River. Mark Hutton is working on another submission that will be presented to the next CCC which will bring life back to the Darling River from below Bourke to beyond Pooncarie. Lets get your ideas on what would be good to include in a Recreational Water hub within the MLS. REFUSE TO LOSE - UNITED WE STAND
