Waterford “Rockin in Cashel” Div 2 Munster Ladies League Match Cashel New Inn vsWaterford Ladies Waterford ladies team braced the elements to travel to Cashel New Inn on the 25th January. Cashel lie 2nd in the division and Waterford needed to be prepared. With regular training from experienced Jonathan Earl and strategic skills and attacking from Colm Byrne the Waterford Warriors were ready for action. The First half had the Waterford defense under pressure and while the wind and hailstones were being dealt with, Jenny Gleeson, Clare Ryan, Shirley Moore, Davidde Dore and Liz in Goals had a firey Cashel Forward line to contend with. They slotted in 2 dramatic goals and at half time it was 2-0 to Cashel. Waterford took stock at half time and with the ever reliant Laura Widger holding the vital position of Centre mid, displaying great composure giving balls to Kristen Maher and Sue Ryan both holding wide on the sidelines! Rolling subs meant that Hilary Johnson and Mora Cliff were rotated up front and Kayleigh Ryan was responsible for left midfield when required! The Cashel team got green carded once and were very physical. Sue Ryan came off due to an injury occurred by a strike to the foot. Mora Cliff was outstanding securing a short corner at left forward. Barbara Johnson played at top of the diamond in Centre Field and got player of the match. Barbaras aggression in attach meant that Ursula McGarry umpire had to show Cashel a green card. Barbara struck a short corner to perfection and scored. 2-1 to Cashel. Waterford pressurised Cashel to the end and Stacey Browne and Hilary Johnson had a lovely 2 on 1 break and as Hilary was about to strike on goals, the goals blew over due to stormy conditions and the umpires abandoned the match. Final score 2-1 to Cashel with a possible replay. ODonoghues Bar in Cashel provided refreshments after to warm up a cold Waterford team who will be “Rockin”back shortly to take another bite out of Cashel.
