Way back in 1963, when I was barely 18 years old, I proudly took the Oath to serve my country and knowing at the time that during my first enlistment I would be going to Vietnam. Many of my friends told me I was crazy for what I was doing, but, I have never regretted to this day that I volunteered: not drafted into the service of my country, to protect and uphold the Constitution, defend our country from all enemies, and give my undying allegiance to the United States of America. I was well trained in basic training at an 11B, then went on to Ft. Gordon for Communications, then finally ended up (after a tour in Korea and back to CONUS at Ft Eustis, VA) in Vietnam. I proudly served my country and abided by all duly directed orders from my superiors. My job was to call in air strikes against the Viet Cong after General Westmoreland and the G2/G3 staff jointly made the decisions as to what the targets would be and what type of bombing we would be dropping on the VC; which could have been Megaton bombs, white phosphorus or napalm. I absolutely knew my job and I did it with dignity and respect for the US Army. Once a soldier; always a soldier. Hooooah !! God Bless America and God Bless those who have, are and will be serving our country in whatever force they chose to serve with (being either, US Marine Corps, US Air Force, US Navy, US Coast Guard, or the US Army, US Merchant Marines, Reserve or National Guard). ............................................... Veterans Day is November 11th. Whether you are military; active, retired or disabled vet, make sure you say Thank you for those who are still on active duty in service of our country or those of any and all conflicts/wars that the United States ever been involved with..
