Way to go. 2nd Testimonial in. Before Crossfit I was your typical gym rat. When searching for a gym I looked for the largest free weight areas with the cheapest membership. I avoided eye contact, spoke to no one and listed to loud music through my head phones. Men’s Health magazine was my trainer and nutritionist providing me monthly “beach abs” work outs. My attendance was great, my lifts were “heavy” but my progression was lacking and this impacted my motivation. My back hurt constantly and I no matter how long I ran on the treadmill I was exhausted after a 50 yard run in sports. After being asked by a trainer to “lift lighter weights because they just refinished the floors”, I knew I needed a change. Enter Crossfit Guelph (CFG); this was the largest free weight areas I had ever seen. Despite my best efforts everyone introduced themselves to me, and surprisingly I enjoyed it. I ditched the headphones and began listening to the coaches and others around me, picking up tips for better lifts. I replaced my “beach abs” workouts with strength cycles and Olympic lifting classes. Initially, I had to decrease the weight of my lifts to meet the ‘perfect form’ mentality at CFG. However after 4 months of critiques, analysis and practice with the the CFG coaches, my definition of “heavy” nearly doubled for all my lifts. My back and core are stronger and I can now run 5 km without needing a trip to the hospital afterward. And most importantly, no trainer has ever been more concerned with “protecting the floors” then with my athletic progression (chalk spills excluded). If you are looking to break though your plateau, exceed your perceived limits and truly improve your fitness, I suggest you try Crossfit Guelph.
