Waylon Prendergast, 37, of Tampa, Florida committed a spur-of-the-moment robbery while on his way home from a late-night drinking session. A very inebriated Mr. Prendergast forced his way into the house through an open upstairs window, filling a suitcase with cash and valuables before setting the living room on fire to cover his tracks. He then escaped through the back door and made his way home, chuckling all the way. Only as he turned the corner into his own street, however, and discovered three fire engines outside his house, did he realize that in his drunkenness he had, in fact, burgled and ignited his own property. His comment: “I had no idea I had so many valuable possessions. Prendergast’ comment, made against the backdrop of his otherwise ridiculous actions, brings home an almost easy to ignore reality. “I had no idea I had so many valuable possessions,” he said. Oftentimes, the daily grind of life blinds us to the wealth we possess. The truth is, no matter how challenging your circumstances in life may be, there is something God has given you, something you have, that can turn things around. Moses was a failed revolutionary who had since given up the prospect of delivering his people from the bondage of Egypt. There was nothing in his prevailing situation that suggested he could transcend what seemed to be a mediocre existence to become the mighty deliverer he was destined to be. Who would have thought the insignificant rod he held could be worth anything? Who would have thought David could prevail over Goliath with a sling? Or that Joshua could bring down the wall of Jericho with voices and trumpets? There is something you have that can take you from where you are to where you desire or ought to be. God has blessed each of us with something of great worth. All we have to do is place all we have and all we are in His hands and watch Him exceed our imaginations. Nothing is formidable enough to stop you from reaching the heights God has destined you for in Jesus name.
