Wayne’s high school transcript bears evidence of thirty absences - TopicsExpress

Wayne’s high school transcript bears evidence of thirty absences during his sophomore year— “And those were only the times I got caught,” Wayne said. He forged parental excuses for all the absences. When the principal learned that Wayne skipped school to see stage shows and also took clarinet lessons, he sensed that the boy might have a musical vocation. He opted for a constructive punishment, enrolling Wayne in a music theory class as a disciplinary action. Along with the advanced visual arts courses required for Wayne’s major, the music class made the young truant’s course load heavy enough to keep him occupied throughout the school day. The principal had no idea that his “punishment” would help create one of the century’s best composers.
