Ways to soothe your crying baby 1. Swaddling(wrapping in cloth swaddle) the baby so he cannot flail and wiggle his limbs. It is snug and feels comfortable to the baby as a mothers womb. 2. If you are carrying your baby face up and if she is still crying then change the babys position. Place your hand under the tummy with her head resting on your forearm. This position is also helpful for colicky children as pressure on her tummy helps release uncomfortable gas. 3.Try creating womb like environment with white sound. Keep the baby someplace where it can hear a continuous low, hum or static sound. 4. Try using pacifier if that calms your baby. Babies very high on non nutritive sucking calm down with pacifiers. Studies have. Shown that pacifiers help prevent sudden infant death syndrome. ( SIDS) 5. Shushing loudly in your babys ear may help soothe your baby. Shush louder than the babys crying sound so he can hear your sound than his own. 6. Babies inside your womb are used to lot of motion. Move them on swings, rocking chairs or give them car rides. 7. Your touch can calm the baby. Skin to skin touch is therapeutic. Take off clothes and give your baby a gentle massage. Use firm strokes over arms, legs back and chest. It might calm you as well as your baby. 8. Slings are a great way to lull a baby to sleep. The motion and your gentle constant touch help to lull the child as well as gives your tired arms some rest to make your own sandwich. 9. Burping sometimes eases restlessness. Apart from the classic burp position against your shoulder you can also put the baby facedown across your lap or you could make the baby sit with one arm supporting the head and the chest. 10. Take a breather before handling the baby again so you are calm and can handle baby. Remember, some days when the baby cries a lot it is not your fault and it is going to pass and be better. :)
