Wayward rooster- There was, in my flock, a very ornery cochin rooster. Not only did he bully the hens, he even tried to bully my boys. He did not play well with others, and tried to do things his own way. He hoarded food piles, shady spots, and even shunned the coop to roost in the shed. It’s not always a bad idea to go your own way; if the hens were roosting on the chicken plucker, perhaps it’s wiser to roost in the shed. However, one snowy morning I followed the ominous, large, round feline tracks of a bobcat into the shed, and they terminated in a pile of feathers. I felt a subtle sense of justice in the act. The rooster refused to follow the path and accept the gift of a safe coop that its master designed. It paid the ultimate price. Don’t be a wayward cock.
