We Are Experiencing The Consequences Of A Failed Government – Jime A member of the House of Representatives, Emmanuel Jime has described the continuous attack on Benue people by suspected Fulani invaders as the consequences of a failed government. This is even as the state Chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Pastor Tor Ujah has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to wade into the Tiv /Fulani crisis with a view to finding a lasting solution to it insisting that Nigeria is better together than divided. The Makurdi/Guma representative at the National Assembly who stated this while donating some relief materials to the displaced persons in some camps within Makurdi noted that the main function of government is to protect and provide for her citizens. He posited that where there is no security of lives and properties of the citizen, as in the case today in Nigeria and Benue state at the moment, it means the state has failed and there is no governance. Jime while handing over the relief materials including food stuff, detergents, cloths to the Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Parish North Bank, Very Rev. Fr. Beba explained that the strategy is to avoid a situation where the materials may be shared with partisan inclinations or sectional sentiments and the fear of camp managers cornering the materials as in previous experiences. ” I am your representative, my work is to ask questions. I have been asking and would continue to ask but it is unfortunate that I lack powers to execute”. “I have not come to see you as a one only sympathizing with you. I am part of you because, as you know, my father’s house, our land have, just as yours, been completely taken over by our enemies”. He assured the people of other security efforts to ensure the killings have come to an end. Responding on behalf of the displaced persons, Fr. Solomon Mffa who has been managing the camps charged the people not to forget God even in their sufferings and called on other spirited individuals to emulate Jime and the others that came before to ensure the people are catered for. The camps visited included the St. Mary’s Primary School, North-Bank and the most populated but not known one at Aper Aku Housing Estate, Makurdi, while leaders of other camps including Daudu and Agan were present to collect the share of the materials for their camps.
