We Bongs are making further inroads into food, a subject we know all too well other than our ‘kobita’ (poetry) and ‘ghoom’ (sleep): a restaurant soon to open is tempting would-be gourmands with “Indian, Mughlai, Chinese, African, Continental and more”. African? My word in heaven. The good ole city is goin’ places. I wonder which part of Africa. Can’t wait to try the fare; we will be looking for Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, and Morocco as we plough into a tagine filled with rice, bushmeat, chickpeas, pomegranate molasses, collard greens, yam, baobab seeds, tamarind, ostrich, egusi (ground gourd seeds) bananas and shea butter; somewhat like the ‘Indian, Mughlai, Chinese, Continental and more’ where we rummage through Gujarat, Italy, Pakistan, Awadh, France, Peking, Szechwan, Bangladesh, Hunan, Maharashtra, Spain and Monaco. And remember, Africans use their fingers as cutlery, so we should be perfectly at home.
