We Need Only to be Still Romans 12:19 Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for Gods wrath, for it is written: It is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the Lord. Thoughts for Today: I have a tendency to be like the Christian man, who when struck on one cheek, got up and turned the other (just as Jesus instructed). He was knocked down once again, but this time got up and beat the other man until he was unconscious. When asked why he did so, his answer: The Bible told me to turn the other cheek, but it didnt tell me what to do when I got hit again. So I did what I thought was best. Its what many of us would do. Hit back. Take matters into our own hands. Unfortunately, when we do so we take the problem out of Gods domain because we are no longer walking by faith. Several years ago a man took advantage of a situation and did a great injustice to me. It brought about great financial hardship and turmoil upon me. I had the power to strike back. I had the desire to wreak financial havoc upon his life. But I didnt. I turned it over to God. I prayed, God, you know how I feel about this and you know what I want to do, but Im turning it over to you. By doing so I found a peace I would never had known if I had spent the next several years consumed with payback. Years later I heard about this same man. His business had gone bankrupt, the IRS was investigating income tax fraud, and his wife had divorced him. His life was in shambles. I almost felt sorry for him. Almost. The Lords wrath is far greater than ours could ever be, so maybe we should just get out of His way. The Lord says, It is mine to avenge; I will repay. Do you trust Him?
