We Shall Be Tested... Due to the threat by petroleum union workers to embark on strike, starting from this morning, I decided to go out early enough to get some fuel to power the generator in my office before the filling stations becomes congested. On my way going, I saw a large crowd standing in patches, all looking sober. I was like, let me first get my fuel. So on my way back after getting the fuel, I stopped over to inquire what went wrong. It was at that point I realised some night robbers had robbed two adjacent shops, a boutique and a phone dealer shops. The robbers carted away almost every content of the boutique shop, but for the phone shop, they did not succeed, because the owner is used to packing the content of the phone-boxes home before closing. A lesson lesson I learnt from the incident is that, it could have been my own, even though several attempts have been made on mine too, by the men of the underworld. Secondly is that, Allaah caused the robbers to empty one shop, and He spared the other. This is how Allaah test some people with poverty, after he Has enriched them. Know brethren, Allaah can test you with anything, and in most cases, he tests believers with those things that are dearest to them. Allaah says: And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,(155). Who, when disaster strikes them, say, Indeed we belong to Allaah , and indeed to Him we will return.(156) [Q2:155-156] Therefore, whenever a calamity befalls a believer, no matter how devastating it may be, he should say, Inaa liLlaahi wa inaa ilayhir raajiun and then he should follow that with patience, even when its the most difficult thing to do when it suddenly happens.
