We Support Lamido Of Adamawa’s Position – NEF — March 28, 2014 The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has said that it is fully in support of the Lamido of Adamawa, HRH Muhammadu Barkindo Mustapha’s position of leaving Nigeria for Cameroon on the possible disintegration of the country by people he called “jingoists” at the ongoing National Conference. NEF made the disclosure at a press conference addressed by Prof. Ango Abdullahi in Abuja, yesterday. On Wednesday the revered Lamido, while making contribution on a debate on whether the conference should invite memorandum from the public or not, had left many delegates in disbelief as he digressed from sounding a note of warning to ethnic jingoists in the hallowed chamber to boasting of where to run to if the country eventually disintegrates. The Lamido particularly said: “Jingoism is not the monopoly of anyone. We are here to make Nigeria work… My kingdom extends into part of Cameroon. In fact there is a state there known as Adamawa state. If anything happens here, I will go there and I will easily assimilate.” In their reaction, NEF said from all indications the ‘futility’ of convening the conference is beginning to manifest, adding that it has always argued that the timing of the confab was wrong, the framework is faulty and the duration of three months is inadequate for a serious national business. Prof. Ango said standard was set for arriving at decisions at the conference by President Goodluck Jonathan, who prescribed consensus as the yardstick for arriving at any decision and in the absence of consensus, there should be 75% majority votes. He added that the president had made the prescription to avoid the splitting of the conference, saying people who thought they are in the majority and now calling for another voting formula of two-third, must have provoked the Adamawa traditional ruler to say what he said. “We support him completely that yes, if this country wants to stay together, we would be happy for it. But if this country decides that its people cannot live together, so be it. “So, we in the Northern Elders Forum, are in full support of the position of the Lamidon Adamawa as taken at the conference and I hope it is the position he will maintain,” he said.
