We all have different goals in this dance and, over time, these - TopicsExpress

We all have different goals in this dance and, over time, these goals will most definitely change as you change as an individual. As a choreographer, I am creating and communicating something through (not to) a piece of music that has never been said before. It is a musical and spiritual interaction between myself, the dancers beside me, and the audience we share it with. As a teacher, I am both a guide AND fellow student to my practitioners. My job is not to spoon feed and sugar coat the process in order to create mini-mes, but to facilitate others development so that they are equipped with the tools to become the best dancers (and practitioners) THEY can be. As a dancer, I work to BE music. Not to accompany a song with my movement, or mimic the melodies already being spoken by the musicians, but to actually become part of the piece. Adding and responding to their conversation with my body as another instrument in the band. Ultimately, the process IS the goal. The process IS the point. The process is what brings us closer to becoming one with the music. And at the end of the day, when age sets in and our bodies begin to fail us, the essence of the process is all we are left with.
