We all have our own musical influences. In the late 50’s, my folks didn’t listen to Elvis. So, aside from nightly performances of live bagpipes, 33 LPs of the Clancy Brothers and the Kingston Trio, I heard artists like Tom Lehrer. Tom was a Harvard mathematician, a piano virtuoso and a humorist – I still remember his lyrics to “Be Prepared” (“It’s the Boy Scouts motto song”). Anyway, Tom is part of the reason I love to write demented lyrics and, for those who have not heard of him, take a listen. He might make you smile. Keep in mind, Lehrer wrote this song in 1959, still quite germane. youtube/watch?v=UIKGV2cTgqA
