We all know that we have a higher level of harshness on ourselves - TopicsExpress

We all know that we have a higher level of harshness on ourselves when we make mistakes, but why? Why do we support and provide comfort for our friends and family through their bad decisions, through their times of fear, and other various life experiences, but treat ourselves differently? If your friend approached you and told you about something that they did, that may have lead to a less than satisfactory outcome, how would you react? Would you tell them that they are useless? That they are an idiot? That they cant do anything right? Would you make them feel terrible about their decision? No? Then why do you treat yourself in this manner? Having the same (if not more) respect for yourself that you show others is necessary for self satisfaction. Everyone is biased based on their own experiences, and will have different responses accordingly. However, if you maintain an equilibrium in your life between satisfying others, and fulfilling your own personal needs, the balance will lead to total happiness. If you focus on satisfying others, you are left needing attention for your own issues, and will rely on external forces to create solutions for them, and will feel let down when they do not come to your rescue. It is great to help others, but do not forget yourself. On the opposite side of the coin, focusing on yourself first will create a feeling of happiness and well being that you will wish upon others, leading to assist others in their journey for fulfilment. You will make decisions thinking of your own feelings first, and not leaving yourself as an afterthought, leaving you to get hurt. You may feel as if this is selfish, but who should be the only person you can 100% rely on for your entire lifetime? Who will be there every minute of every day? Yourself! If you continue to let yourself down, this will add to the effect of being let down by others, equalling a low level of satisfaction - both intrinsically and extrinsically.
