We appreciate lives and violence in the world has to be stopped. The tragedy is a painful one with many of us are angry about it, a sullen looking Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said, leading to a depressing gloomy silence to fall at the Sama Sama Hotels press conference room. The question posed by a foreign journalist on what Liow would say to families of the deceased if he was before them led the silence to last for a few seconds which seemed like eternity with many local journalists, Im sure, couldnt help but feel sorry for the victims of the ill-fated MH17 flight. I personally had a lump in my throat, trying hard to not tear. It has been a terrible year for us Malaysians, locally and internationally. One that we must take home the message and lesson and work hard in rectifying them TOGETHER. Despite reiterating that it was upon the Ukrainian air traffic controllers instructions that the ill-fated Malaysian airliner flew at 33,000 feet, leading it to be shot down killing all 298 lives onboard, foreign journalists are pitting the blame on the Malaysian government and the now close to doom Malaysia Airlines. Only a selected few asked pertinent questions such as if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak would be pressuring the Russian and Ukrainian governments respectively to assist in the investigation process near Torez, Ukraine, close to the Russian border where Pro-Russian separatists forces have entrenched themselves there. This time, unlike MH370, in my opinion, the blame is not on MASs shoulders nor the Malaysian governments. We were caught off-guard by this very sad incident. A foreign journalist came to me after the press conference and asked me the silliest of all questions, Does that mean your Transport Minister is blaming the Ukrainian government on this? I glared and remarked, He did not point fingers at anyone as investigation of the incident is of utmost priority and still ongoing, But he said the Ukrainian air traffic control ordered- Look, when it comes to violence and war, civilians should be left alone regardless of their race, religion and nationality. Ask why did they shoot the plane down first. I think its absurd that majority of the foreign media has sounded the blame game conch on MAS and Malaysia while the United States all of a sudden decides to take the matter to itself quickly by blaming its rival, Russia, while its comrade, Israel, pummels the Gaza strip leading the death toll to rise to 316. Only two Israelis died, but still, lives are lives. No doubt Russia has a hand in this, however, I cant help but see a pattern forming. The incident has to be resolved amicably and lives has to be appreciated. No more killing, please.
