We are 50km upstream in Barrington Tops lucky for us but there are 75,000 people directly downstream and thousands of hectares of food growing farms in its path. The area evolved from volcanoes 50 million years ago. On top we have the last remains of the Gondwanaland rain forests unchanged for 300 million years, underneath we have ancient organic fossilised forests of coals and gases. It is a rich area! Not only will the water in the aquifers be polluted by a concoction of chemicals and the salts destroy the land BUT the natural build up of toxins will be displaced and unearthed causing damage that would go on for millennia.
