We are Thankful. We received a call yesterday from a young man who had taken in a female dog not knowing she was already pregnant. She delivered 8 puppies in the early hours of Saturday. Unfortunately, her condition steadily deteriorated directly afterwards. The gentleman called SICSA in a panic. Fortunately, we were able to do an emergency spay on the pup which also addressed the presenting problem – a retained placenta. We are thankful to say mom and puppies are doing well. In addition to the over 2700 spay/neuter surgeries that SICSA performs yearly for owned dogs, cats, puppies and kittens and the hundreds of stray cats and kittens we “fix” through our stray spay/neuter program – we have been able to save the lives of several female dogs suffering from retained placentas and pyometra (a potentially fatal uterine infection) by performing these emergency spay surgeries.
