We are a work in progress. 18 months ago, Sam was at high risk for residential. He had melt downs every day lasting up to and sometimes well over an hour. His behavior put him and those around him in unsafe situations regularly. A year can make a big difference though. Through Sams hard work, meltdowns are infrequent - maybe 3 or 4 a year and comparatively brief. We never take any of this for granted. It requires effort from all of us each and every day. Sam is learning to trust that we can help him; he is learning to provide clues he is in distress. Those are big steps. It doesnt happen over night. That we have the situation under better control doesnt mean we are done - behaviors can morph and re-occur. We just keep trying.
