We are about to move into wedding mode for Kate and Mike this next - TopicsExpress

We are about to move into wedding mode for Kate and Mike this next weekend, but before nuptial news a short, and blessedly last, set of movie reviews from the Aspen Film Festival. I only foist these reviews on you as several of the films once released are definitely worth trip to the theater. Short Term: 12 is about a teen rehabilitation unit for very disturbed individuals. The line workers are not very much older and as the film unfolds, with serious back stories of their own. It is not a tearjerker; it is gut wrenching, and possibly my favorite of the festival. Nebraska stars Bruce Dern in a black and white tribute to the spare, laconic modern western. Watch Dern play an addled elder convinced he won a million dollars in a lottery, and the interaction with family and friends that ensues. Hilarious and heartbreaking, and frankly well worth viewing. The last movie was The Fifth Estate, which had special security (ie to make sure no one was taping or video recording the movie so distribution would not be affected). We watched the second to the last movie August: Osage County. Go see it. Meryl Streep is magnificent, but so are Chris Cooper, Julia Roberts, and a cast of distinction. See this movie. And decide that your family after all is not all that bad.
