Would you have liked to have seen it as it was being built and spoken to engineers working on it? Want that chance with the successor to the Hubble telescope? The James Webb Telescope https://youtube/watch?v=ah6KrqABzmk I attached a cool (slightly long) video explaining why the James Webb telescope is so important, why its so exciting and why NASA is putting half of its yearly budget every year specifically in this one telescope set to launch in 2018. I recently toured Northrop Grumman where they are building the James Webb telescope and I spoke to an engineer who graduated from UCI as a mechanical engineer and I asked if the UCI astronomy club could get a tour and she said yes. So who would be interested in going? And when? During the summer? The Fall quarter? They are located in Redondo Beach. We can organize car pools for those that dont have cars. I believe it has to be M-F as the tours are when theyre working, but Ill check to see if weekends are an option. Now because Northrop Grumman is a military defense contractor and they work on a lot of top secret projects, in order to go on this tour unfortunately you have to be a US citizen with ID. This was the case with my tour, but I will double check again when I write her back.
