We are approaching the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin - TopicsExpress

We are approaching the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, when on November 9, 1989, the East German government announced that all East German citizens could visit West Germany and West Berlin. There is a special irony to the date of that announcement back in 1989, because exactly 76 years ago.....November 9, 1938.....was the horror of Kristallnacht in Nazi Germany or the night of broken glass. Under the Nuremberg Laws, anyone with three or four Jewish grandparents was considered a Jew, those with two Jewish grandparents were designated Mischlinge or half-breeds. Jews became routine targets for stigmatization and persecution. This culminated in Kristallnacht when German synagogues were burned and windows in Jewish shops were smashed; 100 Jews were killed, thousands more arrested, and we all know how that ended per Hitlers Final Solution. Kristallnacht. Its.such a pretty sounding word, yet it describes a most horrific time in history.
