We are calling on the MS community to challenge the UK - TopicsExpress

We are calling on the MS community to challenge the UK Government’s criteria for Personal Independence Payment (PIP). We believe that changing the qualifying distance for higher rate PIP from 50 metres to 20 metres is unreasonable and will have a huge impact on many people with MS who rely on PIP (formerly DLA). Please add your name to the campaign and ask your contacts to do the same. What’s the issue? The 20 metre rule is replacing the qualifying distance of 50 metres used to assess people for Disability Living Allowance. It means that if disabled people can walk just 20 metres – even using aids such as sticks – they will no longer qualify for the enhanced rate of the mobility component of PIP. This is less than the length of two buses. Those that no longer qualify will lose at least £33.25 a week or, crucially, access to their Motability vehicle. What do we want to happen? We want the 50 metre rule reinstated as the qualifying distance for the enhanced rate of the mobility component of PIP. How can people help? Simply put in your name, email address and postcode at the following link, to send a template letter to David Cameron and Nick Clegg: mssociety.org.uk/get-involved/campaigns/take-action/PIP-20m-rule Help us get their attention by sending yours today!
