We are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the United Nations - TopicsExpress

We are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in November. Our teachers at the British Council have joined in these celebrations by including child protection activities in their young learner lessons. One of them was watching several short cartoons showing different rights of children and what happens if these are not followed. The students discussed each issue in groups and they did it with a lot of enthusiasm. It was great to see how sensitively and with how much interest they responded to each topic. Some of the rights they talked about were the right to freedom from discrimination, the right to freedom from child labour, and the rights to a protective environment, education and family. They learnt a lot about other children’s problems, expressed their own feelings about them, and at the same time learnt a lot of new English vocabulary. You can see some of the thoughts and ideas they came up with on the posters below. Enjoy :-)
