We are coming down to the final days and there are still voters - TopicsExpress

We are coming down to the final days and there are still voters who have not voted: maybe 30%. Tuesday night, the election results will reveal how much work we did, and to what extent we were able to raise awareness about the changes in Palo Alto that we do not enjoy. We will see how many of our friends, neighbors, relatives, and fellow citizens in Palo Alto think these changes are not appropriate for our city. For this campaign, no matter what the outcome, we have achieved amazing results. We put the referendum on the ballot. We have done the research to allow us to understand this issue in depth, and to place it in context for our city. We have spoken at city hall every Monday. We participated in the debate. We have covered this city in flyers, some by mail, most on foot. We have held coffees to familiarize other neighborhoods with this city-wide issue and make common cause. We have gotten the attention of city council and the planning department and our campaign has been mentioned as reasons to not rush to approve high density rezoning. We have LOTS of yard signs out: more than our opponents. We have been endorsed by the Palo Alto Weekly, the Daily POST, and the Daily News, all three Palo Alto newspapers. We have reached into the immigrant communities whose presence has enriched our city. We have had dozens of letters to the editors published. We have a facebook page that is amplifying our message. We have a great webpage that has a huge amount of information. We have had people holding signs at intersections every rush hour morning since Oct 1. We have distributed flyers and spoken to voters at public places and events. We have run ads in all three Palo Alto newspapers. We have made phone calls to voters. We have a great database of volunteers and donors. And we have done all this under extreme time pressure, since the politicians knew it would be more difficult for us to win in a short time frame. WE HAVE ONE SIMPLE REQUEST FOR ALL OF YOU. Whether we win may very well come down to this: your neighbors vote. What our opponents have done is mailers: four mailers into every home to pull on heartstrings, plus a third party (totally clueless) phone banking. What we have is you. A real human being with heartstrings of your own, going to talk to your neighbors to get that one vote that will win this for us all. Would you be willing to knock on some doors on YOUR block? Go introduce yourself as a neighbor. Ask people if they have voted, and if not, ask them to please vote against measure D. Answer any questions they have, and direct them to our website. We need people to stay engaged and, to make our collective voice more powerful, we need to win this election.
