We are delighted to let you know WAR was successful in obtaining funding from the City of Melbourne Grants Program to hold a series of events which celebrate the remarkable achievement of existing for 40 years. The celebration is called As if: 40 years and beyond - Celebrating the Women’s Art Register, and incorporates 7 events (4 exhibitions, 1 projection event and 1 aural event) across 4 venues and one artist led public art event which binds the series by weaving its way across the City of Melbourne. The 40 year celebration is a collaborative exercise bringing together organisations, many different artists, curators and researchers to support a curated mini festival of women’s artmaking which will engage a diverse audience. What we would like to flag with you at this stage is one of the events is a WAR members exhibition (past and present members) to be held at the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre. We will distribute details about the parameters of this exhibition in early February 2015. In the meantime you might like to consider whether you may wish to exhibit. We would also like you to consider who might be interested in knowing about the celebration. We may have lost contact with some of the past members of WAR and would ask you to let us know about people you think should be added to our mailing list to receive information about the events or who may wish to be involved in some capacity. You may also wish to contemplate your own involvement as we will welcome assistance to make this exciting project come to fruition. Again we will let you know details of where and when we most need assistance in 2015 when the project plan is finalised. Now more than ever it is a good time to become a member for your chance to be part of the festivities. See womensartregister.org to apply.
