We are delighted to share with you the winning team that form SEE (WEZESHA) Board of Directors! SOCIO-ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT (SEE) Readership for Participatory Learning, Quality Education & Engaged Citizenship BOARD OF DIRECTORS 2013/4- 2015/6 Socio-Economic Empowerment (SEE)- Wezesha is registered under the Companies Ordinance of Tanzania as a company limited by guarantee not having share capital, with registration number 98763. It is governed by a Board of Directors, which have nine members. The board membership has accumulated a total of over 150 years of experiences in a range areas relevant to vision, mission and operational framework of SEE, as much as it on its operational philosophy enshrined in the wezesha concept. WEZESHA is a Swahili for make-it-possible- a philosophy we operate on to achieve a participatory learning, quality learning/teaching and engaged citizenship in the rural community schools. The major responsibility of a board member is to participate in the development of strategies and major decision-making at board meetings and being active on an ongoing basis in a committee of the board. This will include setting policies and operational procedures for efficiency and consistence. At operational level the board of directors is represented by the secretariat headed by Executive Director (an ex- officio member of the Board). For the next three years the membership of the Board of Directors is briefly present as follows: Mr Daniel N Mvella Daniel Mvella holds Masters degree in Rural Development. He is a process facilitator with skills and vast experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, Strategic planning, organisational development and project cycle management. He has a notable experience in developing and operationalizing Monitoring and Evaluation systems. He has facilitated strategic planning processes with more than 20 civil society organisations. He has facilitated Organisational Development interventions with more than 5 organisations. In addition, as a Team Leader, he has conducted holistic and project evaluations with more than 10 community development projects in Tanzania. Mr Mvella, holds the chairperson portfolio for the SEE Board. He brings in the Board room experience in CSO growth management, Perfomance Assesment and Organisational Development. He has served as a board member in both national and international development organizations. In addition to this role, Mr Mvella is serving Miradi Consult, a consulting firm based in Dar es Salaam in the capacity of Senior Consultant and CEO. Ms Gella Sambula Ms. Gella Elisha Sambula is a seasoned lawyer, experience administrator in both public and corporate lines. She has served as a State Attorney for last 10 years in different departments of the the Attoney General Chamber in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. Currently, in the capacity of Senior Attorney Ms Sambula is attached to the Directorate of Legal Services of the Ministry of Lands. Ms Sambula earned an LLB degree from the University of Transkei (Walter Sisulu University), and has awarded a major in Corporate Management of the Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Mzumbe University. She has served in CSOs sector as activist in human rights and Land with a special focus on the Women and children as marginalized and vulnerable groups of the society. Ms Sambula in this line has served LHRC, SAHRINGON and AIMS Law Chamber Consortium (Rwanda). Bringing in the Board the SADC and East Africa regions experiences pro-poor approaches. Mr. Sixtus Kanyama: He has earned his masters of Arts in Education from University of Iringa (Formerly Iringa University College of Tumaini University), building on his earlier professional base in education. He holds a Diploma in Education from Korogwe Teachers College and Bachelor degree in Education from the University of Dar es Salaam. Mr Kanyama has a passion in learning and teaching support for effective learning. He brings in the Board experiences from Global Outreach programs where he serves as Country Manager. He has served the education sector at secondary school level in various positions to the head of school. His last secondary school position was Head of School at Mdabulo (Mufindi). At Lugalo Secondary School is remembered for as the principal architect of their successful technology integration and partnerships with U.S.-based secondary schools. Mr. Kanyama is a has a certificate in film making from the Martin Luther School in Dakar, Senegal and attended training in e-learning and computer applications for learning and teaching purposes. Mr. Lonjino Mgalama Lonjino has worked in different organizations both national and international in Tanzania in the capacity of financial and accounting personnel. He has earned a reputation at both individual and organizational levels in financial record standards. Mr. Mgalama studied Accounting at St. Augustine Univeristy in Mwanza, Tanzania. After receiving his degree he worked with Student Partnership’s Worldwide (SPW) as an accountant, and to date he has been instrumental in maintain Daraja’s financial records. Mr Mgalama has served as a member of several boards of Directors in Non state actor setting. He is pareticularly strong in financial planning, reporting and auditing. Dr Newton Kyando Dr. Newton Kyando, currently serving Socio-Economic Empowerment (SEE) in the capacity of Executive Director, hence an ex-officio member of the Board. He has worked as a social Policy Analyst for last seven years. He has served as both an academic member of staff and an activist in education and social developments. Participated in civil society networks such as TEN/MET (Tanzania Education Network) , FEMACT and Policy Forum. He has earned his PhD specialising in policy reforms in a globalization context, from the Open University of Tanzania (OUT); Master of Philosophy in Education Policy Planning and Leadership from Oslo University; Postgraduate Diploma in Poverty Policy Analysis. As a professional teacher in Science and Mathematics, Dr Kyando has as well earned a Bachelor Degree in Home Economics and Human Nutrition from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) where he also served as a member of both academic and governing boardies representing students community. Ms Wilma Mwaikambo-Mtui Mme Mwaikambo- Mtui is a seasoned economist, holding two masters in Economics. It is her Masters in Agricultural Economics from Wye College, University of London and her experiences, the touch on grass operations for socio-economic empowerment that has captured the significance contribution to the vision and mission of the wezeshana campaign. Ms Mwaikambo-Mtui has experience in community bassed (grassroot) approach for bigger impacts. She is bringing in the board a rare combination of experiences from government driven programmes, donor supported project and Civil Society operations for social change. To date is serving the MUVI programme as a the project coordinator, In addition to other professional training under her profile, Mme Mwaikambo-Mtui, has earned another masters in Shipping Economics, Trade and Finance (city University London); Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Development (ISS-The Hague); and BA Economics from University of Dar es Salaam. Mr. Laurance Sigalla Laurance Sigalla is self drive and activist with more than five years experience working in rural Tanzania, much of this on research, education, governance and social accountability initiatives. He has enough experience in organizational development, program planning, design and facilitate training sessions, monitoring, evaluation and reporting. Other special merits of him includes adequate knowledge and skills of Participatory Development Approaches, Research skills, Project Cycle Management, Logical Framework Analysis and teaching in both secondary and colleges. Sigalla’s formal qualification includes a Master Degree in Community Economic Development (MCED from the Open University of Tanzania,). He also holds a Bachelor Degree in Arts with Education (BAED) from University of Dar Es Salaam. He is bringing in the board experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, in addition to energy from the young generation Ms Upendo Sanga Ms Upendo Sanga is a seasoned economic planning specialist. Building her career from the training on economic planning at Mzumbe University (former Institute of Development Management- IDM). She latter in addition to several in service training, pursued a Master Programme in Rural Development at Sokoine University of Agriculture. These two programmes are setting an excellent platform or grass root operational framework into socio-economic empowerment. For the last 14 years Ms Sanga has worked his way up to the District Exective Director from an Economic Planning Officer, in rural districts of Tanzania such as Makete and Meatu. Her experience in social and economical drives of development in rural setting and knowledge as well as experience in developmental planning conscious of the policy frameworks and guideline are particularly important components into the Board. Ms Sanga is in Mbeya in a capacity of District Executive Director. We are delighted to have the team and we are looking forward to contributing in shaping up our schooling in rural community secondary for better.
