We are getting many inquires on adopting piglets from us so posting an educational informational post to address everyone. Please read..you need to be prepared and see if you can have a pet pig or are ready for one. (it does seen like we require alot..like pig vet already set up. But we require these things because we see all too often a pig get sick..or hurt..and that pigs never been to a vet and you are left scrambling in an emergency situation for help. Your pig needs check ups and vaccinations just like your child. You would not be pregnant and not have a pediatric dr set up before being baby home..pig is same situation..do not wait until something happens..be prepared for something to happen) With the influx of pigs we are getting calls about daily and people asking the question..Is that full grown?? How much will he weigh? I want a teacup pig? I want to post a few things. We are a pig sanctuary in upstate SC. There are hundreds of back yard breeders popping up and 1000s of pigs needing homes. A mini pig is a great pet..after RESEARCH. People can not promise a weight..it depends on feeding and raising. Mini pigs typically get to 100-150lbd. Pigs grow until 4-5 years old and are a 20 year commitment. They are the in thing to have right now and people are buying spur of the moment. They are cute and cuddly at 6 weeks but by a year you have a big..smart..pig with a 2 year old child attitude! Most vets do not see potbellies and they have to be fixed to be a pet. Females get tumors if not spayed and boys make horrible pets if not neutered.pigs do not like change and grieve horribly when rehomed because they got too big or people no longer have time for them. Adopt!! Do not buy from breeders..and do not pay 100s for a micro or teacup they do not exist!!! They are only called minus in comparison to a farm pig. We are a pig rescue with years of experience and 47 rescues. Im including some great sites for people to RESEARCH what they are getting into..these is not a pet you should get without being prepared..its not fair to you or the pig!! Always ask how OLD are the parents..breeders showing to 30-40lb parents..those parents are normaly young pigs themselves and not finished growing! We encourage visitors to visit and see what a pig requires before bringing one in your home. Always be prepared for a 100+ lb pet..90% of the time thats what you are getting. I have 30 rescues that are 150+ lbs sold as minis who would stay under 10 lbs. Here are some websites to make sure you ARE ready for a pet pig.. Pigs4ever pigpalssanctuary/ potbellypigs/right_pet_for_you.htm Teacuppig.info Now onto the piglets.. They can not leave here for a minimum of 30 days. Number one they have to be blood tested ...quarantined away from other pigs and retested in 30 days Nov 13th. During their 30 day hold they will be getting neutered/spayed micro chipped..fecal tested and shots. We want to be sure you are getting the healthiest pig possible. We also will not adopt a pig put thats not 100% weaned off formula. We also do not just sell to anyone and have requirements and an adoption contract. It is 149.00 for the boys to be spayed/chiped/and shots which is all we ask for adoption fee. And you can call that directly into our vet for your pig when you are approved. We are waiting for a price for the females spaying and will let you all know. We do still have to pay for the blood tests..fecal tests..and housing..food..formula..hay while we await adoptions so any and all donations to their care is GREATLY appreciated. Adoption requirements are: You must have vet references and have a potbelly pig vet set up. -You have to have a fenced in area and housing set up for your new edition and your entire family must be on board. Pigs are not pets to be taken lightly and we make sure you are ready for this responsibility and require you to come out and see exactly what having a pig entails and come spend time with your pig to begin bonding and if you have other pets they need to meet to make sure they will get along. -If you already have a pig they must be neutered or spayed to adopt one of ours and we will help in anyway we can to get your pigs aquatinted ..you can not just throw two new pigs together and expect everything to be ok. And you MUST be zoned for having a pet pig with your county or city. -We do have an adoption contract to ensure our pigs are taken care of after they leave here..many of these pigs were dumped by their former family and have been thru alot to become the sweet adoptable pets they are today and we do not want the same thing to happen again. Our pigs are spayed or neutered..vaccinated and we will help you every step of the way ;) If you meet all these requirements and would like an adoption app to hold your piglet or pig you can email us at the address below. We also have Lulu..Alf..Zeus..Daytona..Hamilton..Truffles..Hammy and Dolly for adoption as well. Paypal:happyhoovesrescuepigs@gmail
