We are happy to report that our student from Nigeria tested negative for the Ebola virus this morning and is not infected. When Toni was displaying flu like symptoms, UWC Mahindra College acted with institutional responsibility and reported his symptoms to the authorities as soon as he felt ill yesterday. The college doctor accompanied him to Pune for the testing process and the National Institute of Virology (NIV) has confirmed negative results for the Ebola virus in Tonis case. He will be returning to campus later today so he can recuperate from what is confirmed as a regular flu. UWC Mahindra College has policies in place to ensure safety and good health of the community; health is of utmost priority. Post the Ebola outbreak in African countries, essential measures were outlined before students returned to campus, and the policy was communicated to students, faculty and parents immediately. Following the strict guidance of the Centre for Disease Control in taking precautions, the college has been monitoring students and staff who have come from the affected countries as per the guidelines issued by the immigration and other government agencies. Arrangements for separate sleeping quarters for students from affected regions and multiple check-ins each day at the campus medical center are made to ensure the safety of the community within and around campus.
