We are here. As female legislators, we were all concerned about the representation of women on the leadership team. I am surprised that so many woman would believe that the position Doreen Costa and I have been given are token. The concept in itself is demeaning to all women and minorities. Predecessors of the Sr. Deputy Majority Leader include pols like Peter Petrarca and Tim Williamson. Regardless of whether we agree with their leadership style, there was no doubt they were ranking members of leadership. When women do not support women, we only undercut our own ability to progress and make the change we know is necessary for all women to lead successful and fulfilling lives. As a member of the new leadership team in the RI House of Representatives, I look forward to working with all members of the chamber to make RI the state where everyone succeeds. --Lisa
