Senior Enterprise Architect Department: Architecture/Northern Virginia Operations Reports to: Project Lead, Operational Architecture Development and Validation Job Objective: The Senior Enterprise Architect (EA) provides solutions to complex problems of diverse scope where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. The EA researches, develops, documents, and analyzes enterprise, operational, and system architectures for the Operational Architecture Branch within Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC) Combat Development and Integration (CD&I) Capabilities Development Directorate (CDD) and other Department of Defense (DoD) and government agencies, identifying mission capability gaps and overlaps, and recommending architectural, IT, or process solutions. The Senior Enterprise Architect develops fit for purpose and DoD Architecture Framework-compliant views and associated data; works with functional subject matter experts to collect and describe both current and future capabilities, operational activities, system functions, business processes, operational and systems nodes, and associated data and messages to include inputs, controls, outputs, and mechanisms. The Senior Enterprise Architect prepares, staffs, and publishes formal architecture documents, produces architecture development plans and reports and conducts staff actions (tasks, papers, briefings, etc.) as required. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES • Conduct the DoDAF 6-step architecture development process • Produce DM2 conformant architecture views within the DOTMLPF domains • Work with functional subject matter experts to collect and describe operational activities, system functions, capabilities, processes, operational and systems nodes, and associated data, messages, inputs, controls, outputs, and mechanisms. • Prepare, staff, and publish formal architecture documents. • Produce architecture development plans and reports. • Conduct staff actions (tasks, papers, briefings, etc.) • Research, develop/document, and analyze US Marine Corps architectures (including business/war fighting/enterprise information environment/intelligence processes and information technology) to identify mission capability gaps, overlaps, and shortfalls; determine and recommend architectural, IT, or process solutions; and research and develop other architecture related documents and plans. • Participate in DOD Enterprise Architecture conferences; generate minutes and capture key action items. REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience • Ten or more years USMC experience, six or more years of modeling and general engineering experience • Formal DoD Architecture development education and/or equivalent enterprise architecture development experience • Working knowledge/experience with the DM2 • Experience with business process analysis and redesign • Strong knowledge of the DoDAF version 2.0 • Working knowledge of other key DOD architecture and strategic planning instructions • Good interpersonal and communication skills • Good analytical and problem solving skills • Working familiarity with architecture tools (i.e. IBM® Rational® System Architect®) • Advanced Microsoft Word and PowerPoint user capabilities to develop reports and presentations. • Excellent writing and communication skills, including the ability to develop analytical documents and present oral briefs to senior leadership. • Ability to work independently with little direction and guidance and as a member of a team. DESIRED EDUCATION / SKILLS • 15 years general engineering experience • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent combination of education and experience • FEAC Certified Enterprise Architect (CEA) • Ability to produce complex and detailed reports and presentations using the IBM Rational System Architect tool • Extensive knowledge of DoD Net-Centric and Data Strategies, DoD Information Assurance Guidance, and the DoD Federation Strategy
