We are home but tired from all the running around the past 4 days! - TopicsExpress

We are home but tired from all the running around the past 4 days! We left Saturday and went to Northern Kentucky to introduce Joey to so many family members who have been waiting to meet him. ALyson had a blast with all her cousins playing, and Mom and Dad enjoyed visiting with everyone. It was so nice to be with family and just enjoy each other. Jon and I took Joey up to Columbus Monday and we checked into Ronald McDonald House. Alyson stayed with the family and continued to relish in attention and lots of playmates! Tuesday we had appointments all day at Nationwide Childrens Hospital. At 9:00 we saw the pediatric surgeon Dr. Groaner, who will be repairing Joeys hernia. He set a date for surgery January 19th. The plan is to repair his hernia, remove both of his big toe nails to allow them to grow back on top of the skin, and he MAY do his circumcision if possible. It may have to wait depending on the severity of the hernia repairs. Next we went to hematology for a check up. Joey is doing great, looking good, and so they took a small blood sample and sent us on our way. Next we saw Dr. Governale in neurosurgery. He took some head measurements and spoke to us about his role in Joeys up-coming skull surgery. At 1:30 we saw Dr. Pearson who will work with Dr. Governale on Joeys skull surgery. He told us all about the procedure and what to expect after. Joey is literally going to be opened up, bones removed from his skull from the eyebrows to about the mid-line of his skull, the bones will be re-shaped, replaced on his head and all sew up with special plates and pins that dissolve. YIKES! He will be black & blue and his eyes swollen shut for a few days. Sounds terrible, but it is needed for his brain to have room to grow and his head to develop as well. They are scheduling his skull surgery in March. We didnt see cardiology while we were there because we go every other week right now for monitoring and check-ups and so far everything is working great. We believe his next heart surgery will be around February. Yup you got that right, hernia in January, possible heart surgery in February, and skull surgery in March!!! God bless us and give us strength. Give Joey the power to heal and watch over all of us, family, friends, doctors and nurses, and Joey. Keep the prayers going!
