Each year in December Harav Slanger, a survivor of World War II living in Baltimore, celebrates a thanksgiving meal to commemorate the day in 1944 when he arrived in Switzerland after escaping incarceration in Bergen Belsen. He was among the 1,700 Hungarian Jews who boarded a train headed to Switzerland in order to escape concentration camps. This year it has been seventy years since that remarkable day.
