We are in Colorado Springs this week to say farewell to my mother, whose earthly sojourn is nearing its completion. She has suddenly developed an aggressive brain cancer and will likely be departing within a couple months or less. As a priest, Ive dealt with many deaths. Some are very hard, while some are full of grace. My mother is awake and lucid enough to speak with the many family who have gathered here from distant places, which itself is a gift of grace. I spoke with her alone for a while yesterday morning. She kept saying to me, The love of God is beyond measure.
