We are in the 4th Quarter of the “game”! There is no time now to let up...we have to push forward! If you missed the last meeting, here were some of the highlights: - we have around 1650 signatures on our petitions, and plan to present them to the Legislature. -Sue Defendorf filed a complaint with the Ethics Board regarding the Legislature using the Friendly Carrier to spread misleading information about the nursing home issue. -Dave Callard aplologized to the OFA Advisory Counsel. -Dave Callard made a statement recently “it’s impossible for the nursing home to make money”...has letter to the editor potential! -letters need to keep coming! -Chris Loss wrote about the CGR report. -Orchard Manor is having ongoing issues, staff is trying to unionize. Legislator Eick reportedly showed Orchard Manor’s owners through “The Villages”. -a video is in process about the experiences of some in our group who had experiences with loved ones in private homes vs. our nursing home, designed to educate the public. -Orleans County has the 5th highest growth in elder population in the state, according to CGR report. -No protest was held on 9-11 out of respect for the somber nature of the day. -Betty Garcia-Mathewson reported from the Research Committee that we need to get people to vote for our candidates! We need to get out and distribute fliers and signs to as many households as possible before the November elections! Let’s get more signs in yards! We have 10 townships in the County 9 people have already volunteered! -our democratic candidates will be receiving monetary assistance from the democratic party, but Emil Smith and Linda Rak will need help. Some homemade signs would be helpful! Also note, there have been several excellent letters in the Orleans Hub, the Journal-Register, and the Batavia Daily News! Legislator Eick has been lashing out at Gary Kent in several letters recently. Our next meetings will be working meetings. The team leaders will ask for volunteers and we will get our plan ready to go out to households with fliers and signs! Let’s get this done folks!! Thanks for all that you do! Chris
