We are just two friends away from reaching 2,000 friend/likes on our page. That is amazing! It is that time again where I have been asked more than a few times “who are you”! I will try to answer this question but yet not make it boring to those of you that have read my story before. My name is Jeanne Wilber, I was raised on Little Birch Lake where my parents, Milton and Lorene Bitz owned a resort (Little Birch Resort) on the north end of the Lake. Growing up on a resort was hard work but lots of fun and I was able to meet a variety of people, thus my love for interaction with people. I work at the local phone company and have been working there since 1980. My parents were the best of people, my dad was always willing to try out new things, while we owned and operated the resort my father also purchased the local Hardware Hank store in Grey Eagle and he had a love for “gadgets” and new technologies etc. We had the first (of anyone I knew of) to own a color TV, the first movie camera, the first Polaroid camera and the list goes on. My mom was the hardest working person I knew, I never could figure out when she slept because she was either cooking in the tavern, cleaning cabins, washing sheets, tending to a family (there were 7 of us in which I am the youngest), and then up early in the morning to get minnows or rent out a boat to those early morning fishermen that either were staying at our cabins or came in from the lake. I am thinking of my mom a lot this week as today is the day she left this earth in 2002, I never stop missing her! This Friday will be her birthday so you see all week I will think of her and the influence she has had on my life, she was a remarkable woman and if any of you knew her you would say the same. My interest in the Melrose Area Museum started a year ago; I wanted to make others aware of the best kept secret in Melrose. I approached Roger Paschke (Museum President) and pitched the idea of a Facebook page where we could maybe make more people aware of the facility located in Melrose, help find names or dates on photographs at the Museum, get more young people interested in local history, gain more memberships and create a location where people who are not living in the area can connect with the current happenings, reconnect with the local history and share their stories. I never thought this Facebook page would have the impact on my own life as much as it has – it has changed my life in such a positive way I can’t even explain in words without filling up the page, I have met and gotten to know some amazing people because of this site and the knowledge I have gain is unmeasurable! The memories & stories people have shared have many times brought me to tears; I have laughed at the humor of some and jumped up and down with excitement when I watch relative or friends connect with one another here. So many times I get emails or private or public messages from people thanking me for what I am doing, I am humbled by the many nice comments people have made to me but seriously I am the one with much gratitude and am thanking all of you for your loyalty, willingness to share, and dedication to being such a magical part of my life and making this dream come to life! Happy Monday November 24, 2014 and please be tolerant with me as I share this week a little bit of my life in my posts. PS: Sorry this got so long, if you read to the end thanks!
