We are located in the Western Region of the Abu Dhabi Emirate, known as Al Gharbia. Today, we traveled from Al Ruwais to the nearby (approx 85 km) seaside town of Al Mirfa - located where the desert sands meet the gentle waters of the southern Arabian Sea. Al Mirfa is a sleepy town known as a long-established fishing port and pearling centre - off the coast of Al Gharbia are some of the Arabian Gulfs most famous pearl oyster beds. Al Mirfa is known mainly for its harbour, its beach, and the Mirfa Hotel. Al Mirfa beach - a popular place to enjoy the scenery, gentle sea breeze, and the soft white sands that stretch far out to sea. The Mirfa Hotel is located on an island formed by a saltwater creek that surrounds the site. The hotel is interesting for its unique architecture and appearance - it is constructed to resemble a falcon with outstretched wings, that gazes out to sea. The hotel grounds include lush gardens that provide a parkland setting, and a lighthouse replica on the hotel beach. In the photos below, you will see a replica of the traditional Arabian boat, known as a dhow, perched on a hill overlooking the harbour; some of the sites along the main street; the beach area and promenade; the Grand Mosque, and you might see a couple doing the tourist thing.
