We are looking for Dead Wombat stories. Christmas and New Year are well - known for those moments, that just go wrong. If you dont want to post them here, send them to [email protected]. Pet loving family headed to Hervey Bay for new year. Going for a walk they found a dog, a real bitsa with more than a touch of greyhound. It had been a long time since shed had some decent tucker. Dog was quickly adopted and gladly followed them home. Gulped down some food and was deliriously happy after getting a bath, and, a bright blue collar. And she only got happier after girls bought out fan because it was hot and the sandflies were thick as, well, sandflies. The dog, now called River, made home and was in no hurry to go anywhere, possibly thinking she had hit the jackpot. But then D-Day. Family had to head home. But after numerous calls to pet shelters and council about lost dogs, family was faced with a major dilemma. There were no reports of lost dogs and no shelter could re-home River. The only option was to hand her over to Council. Who would provide for her for five days then it was an appointment with the green dream. Theres nothing we can do, Dad said. Family came from Cairns. There was no room. Dog was not small. Absolutely nothing they could do....Today River happily went off to the vet where she received her shots. She returned home to be welcomed by ducks, a Great dane cross Zina who wears a pink collar, chooks and goats - all family pets - and Dad, who is the hero of his girls, but whose wallet is decidedly lighter. Dont bring up the trip home.
