We are looking for a weight carrying mare of 16 hands plus for my husband who is a 16 stone confident novice. We can offer the most superb home on a lovely little farm in Basingstoke, Hampshire with our 16 year old ex polo pony mare and our 2 year old Criollo filly. My husband and I just ride for pleasure and enjoy long country hacks as we both work from home so have lots of time to give our horses. I have owned and ridden horses for over 30 years so we consider ourselves an experienced loving home for any horse. We have a lovely red brick barn with 3 stables and 4 acres of lush grazing which has natural shelter. The horses live out all year but do come in sometimes in winter if needed but they prefer to be out moving around rather than stuck in a stable, but we are happy to do whatever works best for our new horse. My husband has ridden on hacks and whilst not the most experienced rider is confident and gentle with the horses. We are looking ideally for a nice mannered mare to come and join our little herd, she must be well mannered in all respects, ridden and on the ground. She must not be spooky and must not be a kicker, biter, rearer or bolter. We also have young children so it is vital they are comfortable around children and also farm machinery as we have lots of tractors and other farm vehicles passing us at times when on the lanes. We have the luxury of being able to ride over thousands of acres of private farm land, woodland and rivers etc so there is minimal road work, however one of our hacks takes us across a busy A Road so she must be sensible in traffic. I know our ideal horse is out there, so please do get in contact as my husband is keen to get out and about and bond with his new horse. We are based in Basingstoke, Hampshire so ideally we would like something that is within an hour’s travelling time to come and view. We would consider buying without viewing for an exceptional horse.
